Pearl City at a glance
Pearl City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located on the north shore of Pearl Harbor with a population of about 45,000. It’s bordered by Waipahu on the west and Waimalu on the east and is located about 11 miles west of downtown Honolulu. Once a popular location of rice paddies and fields, it became the final stop of a rail line in 1889 and residential lots were made available that same year. These days, you’ll find high-rise buildings sharing the skyline with mountain peaks and residential neighborhoods cozied up to expansive forests. While not as popular a tourist destination as other nearby neighborhoods, many people do travel to Pearl City to visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
