Have a Blast in Honolulu This 4th of July!

Are you ready to have a blast this 4th of July? We are, too! That’s why we’ve compiled a list of our favorite ways to celebrate locally over the 4th of July weekend. While the biggest fireworks show of the year at the Ala Moana Center has been canceled for 2022 because of Covid, there are still plenty of other fun ways to enjoy the holiday – and the long weekend! These are some of our top picks.

First Friday Art Walk in Chinatown

Start the holiday weekend off right by enjoying an evening of art in downtown Honolulu! The First Friday Art Walk in Chinatown will be happening on Friday, July 1, from 5 – 9 pm. This fun and popular event takes place on the first Friday of every month. Participating Chinatown merchants open up their doors and provide wine and food to those who stop in and browse. The Hawaii State Art Museum also offers free art viewing as part of the festivities. Best of all, the cost is free!

Shop for your party needs at the KCC Farmers Market

Are you hosting a party this year on the 4th of July? Then you’ll need to load up on treats for your guests! Head to the KCC Farmers Market on Saturday, July 2, between 7:30 – 11 am at the Kapiolani Community College Parking Lot B. Here you’ll find more than 80 local vendors selling fresh produce, fresh fish, locally-made treats, and delicious food. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to browse as you’ll be amazed at the variety this market offers.

Take an Independence Day cruise

Is there a more fitting way to celebrate the 4th of July on Oahu than on the water? The Star of Honolulu is offering four Independence Day cruises featuring live Hawaiian entertainment, gourmet food, and stunning views. Choose from the Cocktail, Sunset & Music Cruise; the Party Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise; Celebration Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise; or the Admiral’s Sunset Dinner & Jazz Cruise. Visit their website for more details, times, and prices.

Celebrate with Oahu’s military communities

If you are a Department of Defense ID cardholder or an eligible guest, then you can enjoy what is being called the “best fireworks show on the island” at Ward Field in Pearl Harbor. Happening from 3 – 9:30 pm the 4th of July Freedom Fest is a free, family-friendly event that will include a car show, games, activities, four concerts, and a spectacular fireworks display.

Enjoy a day at the State Fair

Finally, the 50th State Fair is coming to Honolulu from May 27 to July 4! Go out with a bang by experiencing the last day of the fair on the 4th of July. Taking place at Aloha Stadium, this family-friendly event includes all your fair favorites from games and rides to food and entertainment. The fair opens at noon on the 4th of July and closes between 9 pm and midnight.
