And just like that, we flip the calendar page to 2023. While most of us are no doubt a little fatigued from all the holiday festivities of December, there are still plenty of fun things to do in January! 2nd Annual Muu at the Museum
In honor of Queen Emma’s 187th birthday, Hanaiakamalama – the Queen Emma Summer Palace – will be celebrating at the 2nd Annual Muu at the Museum! Once the summer retreat for Hawaii’s Queen Emma from 1857-1885, it is now a historic landmark, museum, and tourist attraction. Happening on Saturday, January 7, from 5 – 9 pm, the event will feature a fashion show, entry into the makeke, a self-tour of the palace, heavy pupu, a specialty cocktail, and a limited edition keepsake tote. General admission is $150; children 25 years and younger are $85. Proceeds support the preservation and maintenance of the Palace and its grounds.
Sony Open in Hawaii
Attention all golf lovers! The Sony Open in Hawaii will be happening from January 9 – 15 at Waialae Country Club! This is the largest charity golf event in Hawaii and attracts 144 of the greatest golf professionals in the world. The event currently raises more than a million dollars each year for over 100 local not-for-profits.
Friends of the Library of Hawaii Music & Book Sale
Music and book lovers, this is your chance to build your library on a budget! The Friends of the Library of Hawaii Music & Book Sale is an incredible event with more than 25,000 records, 10,000 CDs and DVDs, 15,000 books and comics, and more! The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is a nonprofit that maintains free public libraries in the State of Hawaii, and the sale will take place from January 14-16 and January 20-22. This is one sale you don’t want to miss!
Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Present Beethoven Symphony No. 7
Touted by Richard Wagner as “the apotheosis of dance”, HSO’s performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 is sure to be a propulsive program! The performances will take place at the Hawaii Theatre Center on January 14 and 15 and feature the exceptional accordion playing of Hanzhi Wang. Tickets range in price from $18 to $99 and can be purchased on their website.
Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week
The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame showcases Polynesian football history with the annual Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week. Happening on January 20 and 21, the festival features several events including the Celebration Dinner and Enshrinement Ceremony and the Polynesian Bowl. It is one of the premier Polynesian events in the world and many current and former NFL players are expected to attend.
