Celebrate Spring on Oahu in March!

There’s no end to the fun that can be had on Oahu in March this year! From traditional Hawaiian festivals to Hawaii’s fabulous comic convention, Oahu has everything you need to kick off spring in the best possible way. Here’s a taste of what you’ll find on the island this month!

2023 Lei Day Court Selection

Experience a unique display of Hawaiian pageantry at the Lei Court Selection! Happening on Saturday, March 4, from 9 am to 3 pm at Kapolei Hale, spectators can watch as the Lei Court is chosen based on skills such as lei-making, hula performance, personality, poise, and public speaking in both English and Hawaiian. Those chosen as Lei Queen and King and their court will represent the City and County of Honolulu at select events throughout the year. This event is free and is always a fun and interesting day!

27th Honolulu Festival

Happening from March 10 – 12, the 27th Honolulu Festival is Hawaii’s premier cultural event! Thousands of spectators will gather to celebrate mutual understanding, economic cooperation, and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and those of the Pacific Rim region. This event showcases the rich and vibrant cultures of Asia, the Pacific, and Hawaii to the rest of the world and is a can’t-miss event! Best of all the festival is free!

Hawaii Rock and Mineral Show

If you love rocks, then be sure to check out the Hawaii Rock and Mineral Show! Browse a room full of gems, minerals, and fossils all from more than 20 local vendors. Guests can also enjoy shopping for beadwork and mineral jewelry, gem identification, and gem and mineral displays including rare Hawaiian minerals such as Quartz, Calcite, Opal, and Agate that are found on the islands. The show takes place on March 25 and 26 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Hotel. Admission is free and so is parking!

Prince Kuhio Day Celebration at Waimea

In honor of Prince Kuhio Day, residents of Hawaii will receive free admission to Waimea Valley on March 27 from 9 am to 4 pm. Explore the Valley, talk with the cultural artisans, nosh on snacks and refreshments from Ke Nui Kitchen, and take a dip in the falls. You can also learn about Hawaiian history at the recently rebuilt Kauhale, the Hawaiian living site.

Kawaii Kon

Lovers of Japanese anime, manga, and culture should reserve tickets for Kawaii Kon at the Hawaii Convention Center! Happening from March 31 to April 2, this three-day convention offers a variety of events throughout the weekend including art auctions, cosplay contests, anime premieres, interactive panels, video game tournaments, autograph opportunities, and much more! Tickets for the event are $75 for all three days and can be purchased on their website.
