Summer may be over but things are still hopping over here on Oahu! There are so many fabulous events happening in October it may be hard to choose just which ones you’ll attend. You can rappel off a building, shop for holiday gifts, enjoy local comedy, dress in costume at a music festival, or even attend a performance of one of Hawaii Public Radio’s most popular programs. Here’s a brief look at all the fun stuff Oahu has to offer this month.
Special Olympics Hawaii’s 13th Annual Over the Edge Fundraiser
Have you ever wanted to rappel down the side of a tall building? Now you can at the Special Olympics Hawaii’s 13th Annual Over the Edge Fundraiser! On Saturday, October 8, from 9 am to 6 pm, head to the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa for an extraordinary fundraising event where you can rappel 40 stories down the side of the hotel! Registration is $100 and participants are asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 in donations for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Hawaii Comedy Festival
They say it’s like Saturday Night Live in Hawaii! Enjoy plenty of laughs at the 8th Annual Hawaii Comedy Festival on October 14 and 15 in Honolulu. The festival is a showcase of original comedy created by local, Hawaii-based comedians, writers, directors, and actors. Shows will be performed at Studio 909 and tickets can be purchased for either night on their website.
Hawaii Holiday Crafts & Gift Fair
We don’t want to alarm you, but the holiday season is right around the corner. Get a jump on your holiday shopping by attending the Hawaii Holiday Craft & Gift Fair. Happening from October 14 to 16 at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall, you’ll find dozens of unique vendors offering a wide array of wonderful gifts. General admission is $5; military families and children under 7 years old get in for free. You can download a $2 off entrance coupon on their website.
Honolulu Pride Parade & Festival
The Honolulu Pride Parade & Festival is Hawaii’s largest celebration for the LGBTQ+ community! Happening on October 15 from 10 am to 6 pm, the parade happens along Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki. The family-friendly festival will take place at Diamond Head Greens where you can enjoy music, food, and camaraderie. This festival is free and everyone is welcome!
The Moth – Mainstage
Are you a fan of The Moth Podcast and Radio Hour on Hawaii Public Radio? Then come enjoy The Moth – Mainstage in person at the Hawaii Theatre Center on October 22 at 7:30 pm! This is an evening of storytelling, full of true stories told live and without notes. These events celebrate the diversity and commonality of our human experience and provide us with a connection to each other. Tickets can be purchased on their website and range in price from $38 to $58.
Hallowbaloo Music and Arts Festival
Round out the month at the Hallowbaloo Music and Arts Festival on October 29! Happening in the Chinatown Arts District in Honolulu, people are invited to come dressed up in costume while rocking out to an evening of live music. The festival takes place from 5 to 10 pm and many of the local merchants and restaurants will be participating.
